How Our Subscriptions Work

Pre-Paid Gift Subscriptions

Buy a bundle of months upfront (available here on our website, and some other marketplaces).

The first delivery is a welcome pack with a sign-up card.

The recipient activates their subscription when ready—no expiry date!

They don’t need an account; updates (like address changes) are handled via email.

Rolling Monthly Subscriptions

Available on our website.

Auto-renews each month, with an account for managing details.

Pre-paid and rolling subscriptions are separate—they don’t convert into each other.

Cratejoy Marketplace

Subscriptions here are the same product but managed via Cratejoy, not our website. We can help you manage your account if you get in touch though!

Where do you ship?

How much is shipping?
  • Standard postage is free for orders over £30 within the UK.
  • On UK orders under £30 the postage is just £2.50.
  • International postage is calculated in the shopping cart, just let us know your location at checkout. 
  • If your recipient is overseas make sure to choose the 'international' option on the product listing before checkout.
When will my first box be sent?

Your first parcel (the welcome pack) will be posted on our next working day after you order. The rest of the parcels won't start until the recipient activates the subscription.

How long does delivery take?
  • UK: Usually arrives within a few days of dispatch.
  • International: Can take 2–4 weeks depending on location and customs processing.
Will I have customs fees to pay?

For international buyers - please be aware that customs duties may apply to some products when importing from outside the UK. 

Customers are responsible for ensuring compliance with the laws of their country and paying all applicable customs duties, import charges and taxes.

Though unusual, it is possible for customs to sometimes hold parcels up to a few weeks. 

Will I get a tracking number?

Our welcome packs are sent via a tracked Royal Mail service, so you'll get a tracking number in your dispatch email. Our subsequent monthly deliveries are not sent tracked but we find it to be a very reliable service.

Why have I only received one parcel?

Inside the welcome pack parcel will have been a small card with details about how to sign up for the rest of the subscription.  Subscriptions don't enter our cycle until this happens.  If you still have the card, great! you can sign up now, the code doesn't expire.  If you can't find it, don't panic, just drop us an email to hello@bookish.ly with your name, delivery details, buyer's name if it was gifted and we'll send you everything you need.

How do I change my address?

Please send an email to hello@bookish.ly with your name, OLD delivery details, NEW delivery details and subscription number/unique code and we'll sort it for you.  It's important to note that we may not be able to change shipping address for your current parcel, depending on where in the subs schedule your parcel is.

Didn't Coffee and Book Club used to have vintage books?

Yes, and Tea and Book Club. We have decided to phase the vintage books out and focus on our classic books with our beautiful dust jackets. Everyone currently subscribed to a vintage subscription will be able to carry on for the foreseeable future. We're just not taking on new customers. Don’t worry no-one will miss out! 

What if I receive a book I already own?

Our books are a surprise, so we can’t guarantee you won’t receive one you already have. Many of our subscribers enjoy gifting duplicates to friends or swapping with fellow book lovers. If you do need to arrange a return to swap for another book please drop us an email on hello@bookish.ly.

Can I get a refund?

We're sure that you will love your parcel however it can be returned in the original condition for a refund. Please get in touch within 14 days of receipt to arrange this.

Why can't I log in?

Or why can't I see my subscription when I log in?

If you had a pre-paid gift subscription and signed up with the card in your welcome pack, you won't be able to manage your subscription from the account section of our website. We can update your address details or anything else you need if you contact us via our chat or on hello@bookish.ly.

Another reason might be because you purchased on Cratejoy, rather than here on our website. So you can either log in over on Cratejoy, or pop us over an email so we can help you!

UK shipping is free, and international shipping is £4 per month.

When will my first box be sent?

Your first parcel will be posted on our next working day after you order. After that, renewals happen on the 8th of each month, and new parcels ship around the 14th.

If you order in the 10 days before the 8th, your next renewal won’t be until the following month.

Log into your account here, or drop us an email to hello@bookish.ly with your name, OLD delivery details, NEW delivery details and order number and we'll sort it for you. Please update your address before the next billing cycle to ensure your next box is sent to the correct location. If you need to make an urgent change after billing, contact us as soon as possible.

Payment

When will I be charged?

You'll be charged at the point at which you make your first order, and then on the 8th of each month. If your first order is in the 10 days leading up to the 8th of the month, then you won't be charged again until the next month.

How do I cancel or pause my subscription?

You can log in to your account here to manage your subscription.

You can cancel anytime through your account settings. If you cancel after your payment has been processed, you will still receive the box for that month, and the cancellation will take effect before the next billing cycle.

Can I buy a rolling subscription as a gift?

Yes! Just pop the recipient's address in at checkout and we'll send everything to them. We don't put any pricing in the packaging, and you can add a gift note at checkout.
